2021 NaMoPaiMo Prize

2021 NaMoPaiMo Prize

With all the crazy of wrapping up my chicken show, I haven't had a chance to post about my NaMoPaiMo prize. Jennifer sent stickers and medallions as prizes to the winners of the NaMoPaiMo class in Why the Chicken Crossed the Road and told me that my prize was included. And what a prize it is!. Thank you Jennifer Buxton for sending me this awesome prize and thank you Kenzie Williamson for donating this cool medallion. It is Kram by Anastasia Khlebnikova. I love that Jennifer sent me a drafter medallion for my little drafter foal I completed for NaMoPaiMo this year.

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner

My little chicken show has come to an end. I had a blast looking at everyone's creative and lovely entries. Competition was fierce! There were 48 entrants from the US, Canada, Australia, and Germany.
The halter classes were huge, with 7 classes having more than 100 entries each!
13 of the 21 performance classes had more than 40 entries each.
I was impressed by the creativity in the Creativity Challenge. All the entries were amazing!

I want to thank everyone who entered the show

as well as a hearty thank you to all of the generous donors  - in order of donation arrival:

And now on to the winners!

The following are what I refer to as the
Dozen Good Egg awards.
These were awarded to what I felt were very deserving entries.
In no particular order...

The Spirit Award goes to Juliane Garstka for most embracing the theme of the show.
She made these adorable chickens and a chicken coop just for this show! This is just one of her
awesome photos using her chickens. I loved them all!

The Sassy Pants award goes to this cute little foal kicking up its heels,
Antic owned by Shannon Rodgers

The Critter Comfort award was for the best use of animals (was not expecting live critters!)
goes to Chief and Sondra Householder for this epic photo
answering why did the chicken cross the road? Because chicks dig convertibles!

The "WOW" Factor award
Damn Daniel is owned by Heather Malone
Seriously, just WOW!

The Above & Beyond Award goes to the shower that used chickens in the most entries.
This singular honor goes to Jennifer Buxton, who had nearly double the number of chicken entries
as anyone else. There was also a Chicken Man and a Horse Girl theme culminating in a happy story for the Tell Me a Story class. This particular photo of Dun up Purdy is "Putting the Cart Before the Horse." Love it!

The "Aw" Factor goes to Easy Taiga owned by Andrea Brygidyr.
I literally "awwwwed" when I saw this photo.

Fae Jur owned by Shana Bobbitt earned the Double Take award for having
the most realistic photo (and also takes me back to my childhood!)

Small, but Mighty was awarded to my favorite micro in the show,
Marshall owned by Lauren Hoeffer

Mocha Latte owned by Anne Field won the It's the Little Things Award for
the best use of miniatures. If you look closely you'll see a tiny jar of Liquitex and
can of grey Rustoleum primer! All the little details really made me smile.

Another great photo that earned its award when I literally laughed out loud for this one's response
to why the chicken crossed the road... To stay out of the fryer, of course.
SRF Darkside of the Moon owned by Donna Gruhn wins the Made Me Laugh award.

This Calendar Worthy award goes to the photo that most needs to be in a calendar!
Zaldana owned by Lauren Hoeffer

The Handle with Care award goes to my favorite china in the show.
Doublet is owned by Jackie Moore
Isn't he amazing?

Breyerfest Diorama 2021

A Horse Affrighted at a Lion by George Stubbs, circa 1788

So, a week until the deadline I decided I NEEDED to enter the Breyerfest diorama contest. I have recreated several models from art in the past, so thought this year's theme of Horses Throughout Art History was calling to me. Now, of course, I also had my little chicken show to judge, so I judged classes while epoxy and paint were drying (I hate to make people wait for anything). There were many early morning and late nights (I also work full-time), and I am really tired, but I did it! While not perfect (I've never done a lion before), I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

The contest required the use of artwork that was public domain and I chose a work by George Stubbs, how could I not? There are different variations on this theme of a horse and lion, and I went with this one. The movement and expression of the horse and the lion just emerging from a cave were perfect.

Created using the Breyer Beautiful Breeds Warmblood Ornament (horse)
and Breyer Companion Animal Beagle (lion)

Close-up to match the artwork.

Full presentation
I loved the idea of it being on a base suitable for museum display.

A better look at the lion emerging from the cave.

Pollywog Door Prize!!!

Remember the Pollywog poll? Well, I've been pecking away at his paint job, but am not quite done yet! I used Mel Miller's no black paint oil paint recipe, coupled with PearlEx tips I learned from Heather Bullach's oil painting workshop. I think he is turning out so cool! I got a little ambitious too soon to add his markings, so need to let him finish curing all the way before I can really wrap him up, but at least you can see directionally where he is headed. I think Chickpea would be a cute name, just sayin'...

Want a chance to win him? All you have to do is enter Why the Chicken Crossed the Road Photo Show. One lucky entrant will take this adorable Pollywog micro resin (sculpted by Kylee Parks and painted by Danielle Feldman) home as their door prize.

Entries close on June 11th. You have one week to get your entries in. Go, go, go!!!
